Barbara Hollender

Barbara Hollender is a journalist and a film critic and a president of the Polish section of FIPRESCI. She also served for two terms as a vice president of global FIPRESCI. She worked for film weeklies Ekran and Film. From 1992 she was a film critic of Rzeczpospolita, Poland’s second biggest news daily. She writes film reviews as well as essays and articles on the film market. Every year she covers film festivals in Berlin, Cannes and Venice; she is also among nine critics taking part in Screen International’s Berlin Critics Grid and in international Critics Grid in CIAK in Venice). She covers also Polish festivals. She has interviewed most Polish artists and among the international directors and stars, she has interviewed Robert Altman, David Lynch, Pedro Almodovar, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Bernardo Bertolucci, Jodie Foster, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. She was a Polish correspondent for Variety, 2000-2006. She contributed to International Film Guide, published every year by British Wallflower Press, as an author of stories about Polish cinema. She is co-author of the books “Stars in zoom,” “Studio Tor” and the author of three books about Polish film directors, “From Wajda to Komasa” (2014), “From Kutz to Czekaj” (2016), “From Munk to Maslona” (2017). She has also translated several books, including “Batman” and “Washington Behind Closed Doors.” She is a member of European Film Academy and Polish Film Academy.
