Tadanobu Asano

Tadanobu Asano Nov. 27, 1973 in Yokohama, Japan) is a Japanese actor and musician. He started his career as an actor at the age of 16 and received a nomination as best TV supporting actor for Shogun (2024).

In 2007, Asano starred as Genghis Khan in Sergei Bodrov’s film Mongol. And in 2011, he starred in the Marvel Studios film Thor as the Asgardian warrior Hogun, a member of the Warriors Three and companion to Thor. He reprised this role two years later in Thor: The Dark World and again in 2017 in Thor: Ragnarok. In 2016, he also appeared as the Interpreter in Martin Scorsese’s Silence and as Tatsuo Matsumura in Minamata.

Asano is also known for his roles in Midway, The Outsider, 47 Ronin, Battleship, Last Life in the Universe, Zatoichi, Ichi the Killer and Electric Dragon 80.000 V.

Asano received the prize for best actor at the 2003 Venice Film Festival for Last Life in the Universe. In 2014, he was tapped best actor at the 36th Moscow International Film Festival for My Man. He is the recipient of two Asian Film Awards – the first was in 2016 for supporting actor in Journey to the Shore and then in 2017 for best actor for his role in Harmonium.
