Inaugural Golden Globes Tribute Gala Brazil Scheduled March 18 in Rio
The Golden Globes® announced that Fernanda Montenegro, Antônio Pitanga, Valentina Herszage and Adolpho Veloso will be honored at the inaugural Golden Globes Tribute Gala Brazil, taking place on Wednesday, March 18, at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro. The evening will celebrate the contributions of these artists to Brazilian cinema and television, marking the first Golden Globes event of its kind in Brazil and underscoring the organization’s commitment to recognizing creative excellence on a global stage.
Fernanda Montenegro will be honored as one of the most important figures in Brazilian cinema. As a Golden Globe nominee for her performance in Central Station (1998), which won the award for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language, Montenegro has built a career spanning film, theater, and television.
Her work crosses generations, establishing her as a defining force in Brazilian culture, elevating Brazilian cinema on the international stage. Montenegro will receive the ceremony’s highest career honor, the Golden Globes Apogeu Award, presented annually to both a female and a male honoree whose body of work has made an enduring impact on the art of film and television.
Also receiving the Golden Globes Apogeu Award is Antônio Pitanga – actor, director, and a central figure of Brazil’s Cinema Novo movement. With a career defined by performances in more than 50 films, including Barravento and Ganga Zumba, he has also established an enduring legacy across theater and television. Throughout his life and work, Pitanga remains deeply committed to the valorization of Black culture in Brazil, and stands as one of the most respected and influential figures in Brazilian cinema.
Valentina Herszage will receive the Golden Globes Ascensão Award in recognition of her rise in film and television. After earning acclaim for her role in Kill Me Please, she solidified her trajectory portraying Vera Sílvia Facciolla Paiva in Walter Salles’ I’m Still Here. The film garnered two Golden Globe nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. Fernanda Torres won the latter, marking a historic moment 25 years after her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, was recognized for her work in a film by the same director. Herszage’s work reflects artistic maturity and emotional depth, positioning her among the most compelling talents of her generation in Brazilian storytelling.
Adolpho Veloso will also receive the Golden Globes Ascensão Award for his internationally acclaimed work as a cinematographer. Nominated for the 98th Academy Award for cinematography for Train Dreams, he made history as the first Brazilian ever nominated in the category. Veloso has since emerged as a defining visual voice in contemporary cinema, recognized for his striking compositions and distinctive cinematic lens that elevate storytelling while projecting Brazilian talent onto the global stage.
The ceremony will be hosted by actors Bruna Marquezine and Lázaro Ramos, with Moët & Chandon serving as the Official Champagne of the Golden Globes Tribute Gala Brazil. The event will be produced by Urland Ventures LLC in partnership with the Golden Globes. The special evening will celebrate the extraordinary contributions of these artists to Brazilian cinema and television.
