Billy Crystal

Billy Crystal (born on March 14, 1948, in Manhattan, New York) is a three-time Golden Globe Nominee for Best Actor – Musical/Comedy – for When Harry Met Sally (1990), City Slickers (1992), and Mr. Saturday Night (1993), which he also directed (it was his directorial film debut).

Crystal started in show business as a stand-up comedian at the age of 16, then began studying film and TV at New York University. He debuted as an actor in 1977 with the ABC sitcom Soap, playing the role of gay character Jodie Dallas, a controversial “first” at that time. He hosted The Billy Crystal Comedy Hour in 1982 and was a regular on Saturday Night Live in 1984 (returning throughout the decades with a variety of impressions, such as Fernando Lamas, Prince, Howard Cosell, and himself).

Crystal starred at the movies in hit comedies like Running Scared (1986), Throw Momma From the Train (1987), and Rob Reiner’s “cult” When Harry Met Sally… opposite Meg Ryan, in 1989, which was followed by Ron Underwood’s City Slickers (1991), Forget Paris (1995), Woody Allen’s Deconstructing Harry (1997) and Harold Ramis’ Analyze This (1999). Crystal famously provided the voice for Mike in Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. (2001), and its various sequels, and starred in the FX TV series The Comedians (2015). He’s hosted the Academy Award show nine times, between 1990 to 2012.
