Juano Hernandez
Juano Hernandez (born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 19, 1896, died July 17, 1970) started as an acrobat in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, performed in vaudeville in New York, on radio and on Broadway. He played a poor Mississippi farmer unjustly accused of the murder of a white man in Intruder in the Dust (1949) directed by Clarence Brown from the 1948 novel by William Faulkner. That performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination as Best Newcomer. He played a freed slave in Stars in My Crown (1950) with Joel McCrea, the partner of a fishing boat captain in The Breaking Point (1950) by Michael Curtiz, a judge in Trial (1955) with Glenn Ford, a Puerto Rican working in the East Harlem pawn shop in The Pawnbroker (1964) by Sidney Lumet with Rod Steiger.
