Mercedes McCambridge

Carlotta Mercedes McCambridge (born in Joliet, Illinois, March 16, 1916, died March 2, 2004) won a special award as Best Newcomer at the 1950 Golden Globes and was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for All The King’s Men (1949) directed by Robert Rossen from the 1946 novel by Robert Penn Warren. She acted with Joan Crawford in Johnny Guitar (1954), a western directed by Nicholas Ray, with Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean in Giant (1956) by George Stevens, with Katharine Hepburn, Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor in Suddenly, Last Summer (1959) directed by Joseph Mankiewicz from the 1957 play by Tennessee Williams. On television she starred with George Brent in the drama series Wire Service (1956-1957), played the Grandmother in the TV movie Who Is the Black Dahlia? (1975), the mother in the TV western The Sacketts (1979) from the novels by Louis L’Amour, with Sam Elliott, Tom Selleck and Glenn Ford.
