
Ruth Buzzi
Ruth Buzzi (born July 24, 1936 in Westerly , RI; died May 1, 2025 in Fort Worth) won a TV supporting actress Golden Globe at the 1973 ceremony. She was the only woman to appear in every episode of Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, starting in 1967. (She exited the original Broadway production of “Sweet Charity” to take the TV job.) On the fast-paced comedy-sketch series, she had several recurring characters, including Gladys, a frumpy woman who frequently whacked “dirty old man” Arte Johnson with her purse. She worked frequently in TV, with nearly 100 television credits and was in more than 20 films.
