Bille August
Bille August (born in Brede, Denmark, November 6, 1948), a Danish filmmaker, directed foreign films like Pelle the Conqueror (1987) with Max von Sydow and The Best Intentions (1992) from a script by Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman. He directed English movies like House of the Spirits (1993) from the 1982 novel by Isabel Allende, with Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons, Smilla’s Sense of Snow (1997) with Julia Ormond, Les Misérables (1998) from the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo with Liam Neeson, Night Train to Lisbon (2013) with Jeremy Irons. He directed the Danish films Silent Heart (2014), A Fortunate Man (2018), The Pact (2021) about Danish writer Karen Blixen.
