Barbara Demerov
Barbara Demerov is a Brazilian journalist and film critic with over 10 years of experience covering film, culture and entertainment. As a specialized journalist, she interviews acclaimed talents from Brazil and abroad, including Oscar winners and emerging voices in the industry.
She worked at VEJA São Paulo, a traditional magazine in Brazil, writing the film and TV column for three years. Previously, she also worked at AdoroCinema, a major website, as a movie critic and reporter, covering film festivals inside and outside the country (such as the São Paulo International Film Festival and Berlinale). Barbara is also the founder of Cinematecando, a review website that was created in 2015 and which she ran until joining AdoroCinema.
Since 2018, she has been a member of the critics’ jury at the São Paulo International Film Festival — Mostra SP. She is also a member of the Canal Brasil jury at several festivals, such as Kinoforum, Cine PE, and É Tudo Verdade.
In 2019, she joined ABRACCINE — the Brazilian Association of Film Critics — a respected institution that brings together film critics from across the country. Representing ABRACCINE, Barbara was a member of the jury at Olhar de Cinema – Curitiba International Film Festival at the same year. In 2022, she was a member of the official critics’ jury at the Gramado Film Festival, one of the most important festivals in Brazil.
She currently hosts the interview podcast 1 Livro, 1 Disco, 1 Filme and works as a freelance writer for outlets such as Folha de S. Paulo, Revista Velvet, and Revista Bravo!.
