Happy 100th, Francis Albert Sinatra, born December 12, 1915 in Hoboken, New Jersey! Here’s Frank in 1958 receiving a Golden Globe award as Best Actor for the Technicolor musical Pal Joey, directed by George Sidney. The singing voices of his costars, Rita Hayworth and Kim Novak, were dubbed. On that night Sinatra and his Rat Pack pals stormed the stage and proceeded to hand out Golden Globes, which up until that point were presented by journalists. And thus a new tradition was born…
In 1954 Sinatra had won a Golden Globe as Best Supporting Actor for From Here to Eternity, directed by Fred Zinneman, starring Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr. In 1964 he would be nominated for best motion picture actor, musical/comedy for Come Blow Your Horn, and In 1971 he would win the Cecil B. deMille Award.
Sinatra won his first Golden Globe in 1946 “for his work on the cause of tolerance” when he starred as himself in the short film The House I Live In.
