The 79^th Golden Globe awards will mark Elizabeth Olsen’s first nomination for her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the Disney+ miniseries WandaVision in the category of Best Performance as an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.  
Olsen, 32, was born and raised in Los Angeles. She is the younger sister of the famous twin actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Full House), who went on to become fashion designers. She has an older brother, a younger half-brother, and a younger half-sister. At a young age, Elizabeth began acting in Mary-Kate and Ashley’s films, including The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley.
Her breakthrough came in 2011 when she starred in Martha Marcy May Marlene, for which she garnered rave reviews around the globe and was hailed as the new “indie queen”; she followed it up with a starring role in Silent House in the same year.  A prolific actress, Olsen has worked continually throughout her career and has been critically lauded for performances in such films as Liberal Arts (2012), Oldboy (2013), Godzilla (2014), Wind River (2017) and Ingrid Goes West (2017). Her character Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch has been a pivotal character in the films Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
For those unfamiliar with the origin story of Wanda, the character began as the creation of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, for X-Men 4. Wanda is the mutant daughter of Magneto and was recruited by the Avengers; she met Vision (Paul Bettany), an android with whom she fell in love and got married. They are now living in suburbia in the town of Westview, where they try to conceal their superpowers. Wanda’s superpowers include telekinesis, telepathy, and energy manipulation, while Vision has superhuman stamina, reflexes, speed, agility, and analytical capabilities.
WandaVision takes place after the events of the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame. “We’re telling a story about these two characters you’ll know if you’ve seen the Marvel movies, and we’re throwing them into a sitcom world set in different time periods and eras,” Olsen says. It seems she’s never far from her alter ego, Wanda – she most recently worked in London on the film Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in which she reprises the role. 
Offscreen, Olsen is married to musician Robbie Arnett of the band Milo Greene. A self-confessed homebody, she says, “Domestic life is my comfort zone. I’m far more comfortable being at home, cooking, cleaning, and gardening, than being at a party. So, when COVID started and we had to stay at home, I was like, ‘That’s OK, I can do this.’” Or so she says she thought at the beginning of the pandemic – evidently, she spoke too soon. “Well, I thought a month sounded fun.”
Olsen has been described by her peers as funny and fiercely intelligent. She comes across as very level-headed, in spite of her success and her family’s lineage. “I think it’s important always to try to beat your own last best score instead of trying to compete with other people around you,” she explains. “There’s something about this job where you can find yourself getting caught up in things you really don’t need to get caught up in, like noise and opinions.  What’s important is to understand why you make your choices and be certain of why you do things and what you’re going to get out of them.”
