Tony Revolori on The Grand Budapest Hotel
Last month The Grand Budapest Hotel opened the Berlin Film Festival to wide acclaim, winning the prestigious Jury Grand Prix or Silver Bear. Wes Anderson’s 8th feature film is inspired by the writings of Austrian writer Stefan Zweig (the director freely admits to having “directly stolen” many ideas from Zweig’s works as well as from his life). For Budapest this means in part being infused with nostalgia for a bygone world of Austro-Hungarian elegance and the rueful feeling that it was supplanted by a violent, and altogether less stylish modernity. The film was shot in Berlin and on location in Görlitz,, a city on the German-Polish border, in the director’s unmistakable whimsical visual style. Aside from stars like Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Jeff Goldblum, Saorsie Ronan and young newcomer Tony Revolori, the cast includes many Anderson frequent collaborators like Adrien Brody, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Jason Schwarztman, Edward Norton, Harvey Keitel and Willem Dafoe. The HFPA recently spoke to some of them in New York. Check out the videos and take a look at the trailer. Click here
