Tom McCarthy Shines a Spotlight on Investigative Journalism

Spotlight takes its name from a special investigative unit at the Boston Globe: four reporters who uncovered the scandal of pedophile priests in the Catholic diocese. After months of thorough research their work resulted in a series of articles published in the Globe beginning in 2001, which led Cardinal Bernard Law to resign his post. To tell the story in the mold of journalism-based film classics like All The President’s Men, Director Tom McCarthy assembled an all star cast: Michael Keaton as Spotlight leader Walter ‘Robby’ Robinson, Rachel McAdams as Sacha Pfeiffer, Mark Ruffalo as Mike Rezendes, Liev Schreiber as editor-in-chief Marty Baron, John Slattery as publisher Ben Bradlee Jr. and Stanley Tucci as attorney Mitchell Garabedian. The HFPA’s Ramzy Malouki reports from the film’s premiere.
