Vinny Pazienza is a five-time world champion Italian American boxer out of Rhode Island who in the 80s held titles in three categories winning belts in the light, light-middle and super middleweights. He is played by Miles Teller in Ben Younger’s Bleed for This, which recounts his career and his amazing comeback from a spinal injury he suffered as a result of a horrific car accident. Aaron Eckhart, himself a boxing aficionado and amateur practitioner of the sweet science, plays Kevin Rooney a down and out trainer who works with Pazienza after having been in Mike Tyson’s corner with Cus D’Amato. The HFPA’s Silvia Bizio and Ruben Nepales spoke with the actors about the film and the enduring allure of boxing movies.
