When it comes to Shirley MacLaine there’s really no other way to say it, we’re dealing with Hollywood royalty, with the curriculum – and the hardware – to prove it. Over the span of a six-decade long career Ms. MacLaine has earned 19 nominations and won 5 Golden Globes plus a Cecil B. deMille Award and the special New Star of the Year Award in 1955! That was for her role in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Trouble With Harry. Her last nomination – so far – was in 2009 for Best Actress in a TV Movie for Coco Chanel. In January Ms. MacLaine braved the altitude and a historic blizzard to present her latest effort, The Last Word, at the Sundance Film Festival and received a well-deserved standing ovation from a packed Eccles Auditorium. The HFPA’ Silvia Bizio spoke to her and to co-star Amanda Seyfried about the film directed by Mark Pellington and which writer Stuart Ross Fink expressly penned with MacLaine in mind.
