The first weekend of Cannes is party time par excellence – and the HFPA, which already throws the Party of the Year (a little thing called the Golden Globes…) joined the festivities with its annual Cannes bash. And no mere party this is… Last year the HFPA hosted a cocktail party at the Carlton Hotel’s Nikki Beach to benefit and honor FilmAid International, which included a $100,000 donation to that organization, which provides film screenings to refugees around the world. This year a much larger grant benefited an organization founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein – the International Rescue Committee, which, more than ever, needs all the support it can get in their task of delivering lifesaving care to people fleeing conflict and natural disaster.
