Cannes 2017, Day Ten: Yo Ho, a Jury’s Life for Me
Consider the life of a Cannes jury member – there’s basically two activities in her/his agenda: watching the best international films available at the moment and attending whatever events tickle her/his fancy among the vast opportunities available; this, in a country famous for the excellence of its cuisine, wines and parties. The job, of course, also comes with a tremendous amount of pressure and responsibility. The Palme d’Or and its companion awards are not to be dispensed lightly, and any Cannes jury member with a good memory will, if questioned, tell you stories of heated discussions in chambers, when the hour of truth draws near. And the 70th Cannes Film Festival is coming to a close – the Marché has ended; a great contigent of executives, producers and press has already left; and the last films in competition will be shown tomorrow, Saturday. But before that… a votre santé!
