Comic-Con Family Affair

Families that dress up together, stay together. Or in San Diego’s Comic-Con, they have fun together!
Yes, the creative pastime known as Cosplay that reaches fever-pitch at Comic-Con is definitely a family-friendly activity. Every July, the lovely city of San Diego welcomes not only geeks and lovers of films, comic books and television, but also families who love to dress up together in costumes to portray their favorite characters or super heroes.
Take the Del Rosario family from San Diego, for instance. Mom April, who is a pastry chef, is dressed in a sexy cat suit outfit as Cat Woman. Dad Lester, who is a carpenter, chose to be the Riddler while their adorable six-year-old son, Clark, is dressed as the Joker complete with full make-up (thanks to Mom), green hair and purple suit. “It’s fun to be the Joker,” revealed the precocious six-year-old.
Victor Peraza, a social worker, on the other hand is Nightwing to his eight-year-old son Matthew’s Robin. Based in Ontario, California, the Perazas love to go to Comic-Con to dress up, attend panels and just collect superhero paraphernalia and give-aways. It is their second time to be at Comic-Con and they plan to go every year. “Nightwing is Batman’s partner before he became Robin,” explained Victor.
Then we have the family who dresses up just “for fun because we love going to San Diego to escape as well.” Mom and Dad chose period costumes that they got from Halloween stores and their five-year-old son chose a robot costume.
There is an Asian family who is proud of its heritage and culture and prefers to dress up in almost identical dynasty warrior costumes.
Finally, there are the mother and daughter cosplayers who opted for their own interpretation of female police and soldier girl.
It’s anything goes, anyway, here at Comic-Con so why bother explaining. It’s Family-Con!
