Stars from The Affair and Jessica Jones Show Their Style in NYC

It was a busy week in New York City: stars from the Showtime series The Affair – launching Season 2 in October – and Netflix’s entry in the Marvel Multiverse, Jessica Jones – premiering later in the Fall – were in town to promote their work … and to show off their flair for fashion. HFPA’s own Janet R. Nepales (text) and Ruben V. Nepales (photos) documented the stylish activity.

A recent trip to New York gave us a glimpse of the fashion styles of the stars of some highly anticipated TV shows.
In talking to the main cast of the Golden Globe winner The Affair (filmed in Long Island, New York and premiering its second season on October 4) we found out that, when it comes to fashion, sometimes the line between actor and character becomes blurred …
2015 Golden Globe winner for Best Actress in a Television Series-Drama, Ruth Wilson, who portrays nurse-turned-waitress Alison Bailey, wore a sexy off-white lace vintage sleeveless top with Armani black trousers and nude, pointed Whistles pumps.
For accent, the British actress wore a dramatic black Alexander McQueen bracelet with a very interesting set of intertwined gold Dior rings. This woman definitely knows the state of affairs in fashion. She was very playful as she flashed her accessories for our camera.
The handsome Dominic West, who plays teacher/novelist Noah Solloway in The Affair, looked very dignified in his midnight blue Paul Smith suit, a white Charles Tyrwhitt shirt and black Prada shoes.
Maura Tierney, who is cast as Noah’s now estranged wife, Helen, loves her character’s wardrobe so much that she borrowed one item and wore it to our interview at The London NYC Hotel. “This is Helen’s Vince sleeveless gray blouse I am wearing,” she confessed with a sheepish smile. “I just borrowed it.” She added, “But the jeans are mine.” She wore A.P.C. black and white classic wedge sandals. The Bostonian Tierney completed her look with a Jeanine Payer silver necklace and David Yurman silver bracelets.
Also in the Big Apple to share with us their superhero stories and personal fashion tales were Marvel’s Jessica Jones’ stars Krysten Ritter and David Tennant.
Krysten plays the Jessica Jones in question, a former superhero who opens her own detective agency. She walked in looking like a professional model, something that indeed she was – in her teens. The tall Pennsylvania native commanded the room in a black Reem Acra dress that had lacey accents on top and on the back.
“This is the first time that I wore a dress in nine months,” she admitted with a laugh.
To enhance her dramatic look, she wore her favorite black Jimmy Choo high heels with
ankle bows.
British actor David Tennant, who portrays Kilgrave in the Marvel-Netflix series, was a very fashionable dude in his gray jacket with burgundy accents on the collar and pockets, paired with burgundy pants, all by Paul Smith.
“Paul Smith is my go-to guy when it comes to fashion because we have the same shape,” David commented. (He also admitted that playing the Doctor on BBC’s Doctor Who from 2005 to 2010 was the realization of a childhood dream.)
David added more fun to his look with a Paul Smith T-shirt emblazoned with a mischievous monkey in a striped prison uniform, and completed our favorite look for the day with matching gray-with-burgundy-accents Penelope shoes that were, in his words, “a Christmas present from my wife (English actress Georgia Moffett).” For his accessory, he sported an Apple watch. Perfect!
