Shortfish Winners from Stockfish Film Festival
The 8th edition of the Stockfish film festival that took place from March 24 to April 3 in Reykjavik has announced the 4 winners of the Shortfish competition. The fiction short Nest won the big prize.
Nest, directed by Hlynur Pálmason and produced by Anton Mán Svansson, won the top prize as the best Shortfish short fiction film. The team behind the film, which is about siblings building a tree house together over the course of a year, will receive 1 million Icelandic króna and a 1 million Icelandic króna voucher for equipment rentals for their upcoming films.
The fiction jury consisted of the English director David Bonneville, the Icelandic actor Benedikt Erlingsson and the American screenwriter Pamela Ridon.
Even though the Stockfish Film Festival in Reykjavik presents international feature filmmakers and talent, the main awards are for local short films in the so-called Shortfish competitions. The purpose is to allow young and upcoming Icelandic filmmakers to showcase their work for an international community of filmmakers and help them gain notice in their field.
The films were divided into four categories, and apart from the Best Fiction short film, were divided into Documentary, Experimental and Artistic Music Video, with five films in each category.
The winners of the other three categories were: Snæfríður Sól Gunnarsdóttir for the Artistic Music Video Vesturbæjar-beach, Eydis Eir Brynju-Björnsdóttir for her Experimental film Chryalis and Birna Ktilsdóttir for the documentary film Brávallagata 12.
