All good things must come to an end and so did Comic-Con 2015, with a mad rush here at HFPA SDCC HQ! The last press conferences included James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe for Victor Frankenstein, the revisiting of the Mary Shelley novel that focuses on the relationship between the misunderstood doctor (McAvoy) and his faithful assistant Igor (Radcliffe).
Ryan Reynolds stopped by with the cast of Deadpool the R-Rated anti-superhero (or is it super anti-hero?) movie that made big waves at the Hall H Fox presentation. Reynolds told us how hard it was to get the project green-lighted and how in the end it was tweets from Comic-Con fans that got the film out of a six-year development hell.
Hayley Atwell came to see us and spoke about how Peggy Carter, her character in Marvel’s Agent Carter has grown through the first season to become an icon of early feminist empowerment. The second season will see her move to 1940s Hollywood and take on a stylish classic noir tinge, she said, in the vein of LA Confidential or Chinatown.
Zachary Levi and Jack Coleman came to speak about the (seemingly) never ending saga of Heroes, a franchise that has loomed large in San Diego for years and will now continue to do so in the current iteration Heroes Reborn.
Finally – by no means least – time finally came to meet the Doctor. Who, you say? Funny you say that… Peter Capaldi aka the twelfth Doctor Who is the latest British actor to take on one of the most storied franchises in Sci-Fi history. The show which started in 1963 has mesmerized generations of fans and with Capaldi’s doctor is now in the ninth season of its modern era. To us he told how that reception he received in town made him think about running for office. Last we saw of him he stepped into a London police call booth and was gone.
And with that the curtain did indeed finally come down on this Comic-Con. May the Force be with you until next year.
