In 1979 Santa Barbara, California, three women find their way through a changing world: a single mom (Annette Bening), a budding photographer (Greta Gerwig) and a precocious teen (Elle Fanning). The story cuts close to writer/director Mike Mills: “I make personal movies because I feel like it’s my best chance to make a good movie”, Mills told us. “I can report on something that I have closely observed and I can write and think about people I love deeply.” Annette Bening received a nomination for Best Actress-Motion Picture Comedy/Musical for her work in 20th Century Women.
