71st Annual Golden Globe Awards Nominee Reactions

With winners to be announced during the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted ceremony on January 12, 2014, the talented stars of television and cinema have offered up their reactions to their nominations for the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards.
Speaking words of gratitude, excitement and praise, a comprehensive collection of quotes from the latest crop of esteemed Golden Globes hopefuls reads as follows: Julia Roberts (Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for August: Osage County: “Being a part of a film like AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY was a dream come true for me as an actor. To be able to take the brilliant words of Mr. Tracy Letts and bring them to life on screen – alongside such an astonishingly talented set of co-stars, no less – was a thrill and the challenge of my life.

Asghar Farhadi (Best Foreign Film for The Past): “It is great news to have my film nominated for the second time. The Croods has been an eight-year labor of love and to be recognized with a Golden Globe nomination is pretty amazing. We set out to make a film that everyone in the family – especially fathers – can relate to: a story about the power of change. Alexander Payne (Best Director for Nebraska): ”People talk about this being a ‘competitive’ year for film, when really it is an ‘excellent’ year — so many wonderful movies internationally and at home. I’m happy Nebraska is part of the discussion, and I’m especially gratified by the attention Bruce Dern and June Squibb are receiving at what we hope is the mid-point of their careers.”
Bruce Dern (Best Actor, Comedy, for Nebraska): “What’s wonderful about this nomination is that we started the journey a long time ago and it’s so fantastic that people are supporting Nebraska. We are so happy that the Hollywood Foreign Press has given this movie a lot of love. With teammates like June Squibb, Will Forte and the rest of the cast, Alexander Payne gave us the best that we could have asked for.”

Oscar Isaac (Best Actor, Musical or Comedy, for Inside Llewyn Davis): “Working with the Coen brothers on Inside Llewyn Davis was a life changing experience. I’m grateful and humbled that the HFPA recognized my work in the movie.”
Lupita Nyong’o (Best Supporting Actress, Drama, for 12 Years a Slave): “I can’t express the excitement I felt hearing my name called while listening to the nominations from Paris this afternoon. I screamed and the tears started immediately; I was so overwhelmed! I am so happy for Chiwetel, Michael, Steve, John, and Hans. 12 Years a Slave means so much to me and having the Hollywood Foreign Press recognize it as it did, is just beyond words.”
Bradley Cooper (Best Supporting Actor for American Hustle): “I’m humbled that the HFPA recognized American Hustle in such a big way. I’m so happy for David O. Russell and really proud of this film. To work alongside Christian, Amy, Jeremy, Jen and the entire cast of this film is a real honor.”
Sandra Bullock (Best Actress, Drama, for Gravity): “The reason I am lucky enough to receive this wonderful nomination from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, is because Alfonso Cuaron awarded me the most extraordinary experience, which was to work with him.”
Monica Potter (Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, for Parenthood): “This was a completely unexpected wonderful surprise! I’m so thankful to the HFPA for recognizing all the hard work we (cast/crew) put into Parenthood. And, I’m so honored to be in the company of such talented women. I can’t wait to go to the party of the year!”

Jacqueline Bisset (Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for Television, for Dancing on the Edge): “I’m delighted. It is encouraging, which is something we all need.”
Rebecca Ferguson (Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for Television, for White Queen): “I’m honored to be nominated in this category and would like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. I am very proud of The White Queen and my special thanks go to Philippa Gregory, Emma Frost, Starz, the BBC and Company Pictures.”
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Best Actor in a Mini-Series or TV Movie for Dancing on the Edge: “It is such a huge honor to be nominated for two Golden Globes and I would like to thank the members of the HFPA for this incredible recognition. The response to 12 Years A Slave and Dancing On The Edge from the public and media alike has been overwhelming and I am so very grateful.
