Cannes – The Fashion
Let’s spread a merciful veil of forgetfulness over the much discussed shoe incident. It was the frocks and lack thereof that had tongues wagging and fashion bloggers squealing with delight and shuddering in horror. Here’s our own best & worst dressed of Cannes 2015: BEST Emily Blunt wore Stella McCartney to the Sicario Premiere.
And showed up in a cream colored Calvin Klein at the designer’s exclusive party. In both cases flawless Natalie Portman’s green Lanvin wasn’t quite as chic as the black &white Dior she wore to her own premiere and the red one on opening night Also in black & white Dior was Doutzen Kroes at Sicario, and one of only two models that did not commit fashion faux pas after fashion faux pas (the other one was Karli Kloss) Gorgeous as always: Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive at Sicario, and in Giles at Carol Emma Stone is one of very few young actresses with a distinct sense of style. Here she is in Christian Dior & Repossi at Irrational Man The French never missed: Ines de la Fressange is elegant and beautiful at Irrational Man Female power rules – onscreen and off – and no one proved it better than Charlize Theron in yellow Dior Couture at Mad Max Sienna Miller was the best-dressed juror: in Lanvin on opening night and rose Gucci on closing night Feathers are getting a little old but Naomi Watts looked stunning in grey Elie Saab on opening night WORST The supermodel-cleavage convention displayed at the amfAR gala on Thursday took the cake. The plunging neck- and backlines were deeper than their thoughts, for sure. It is a little surprising that it was mostly the models that showed the worst taste this year: Irina Shayk in gold Atelier Versace at Sicario and in see-thru green at amfAR Jane Fonda at Sea of Trees: almost as bad as the film. Cutouts and peek-a-boos were overdone this year and they don’t work, no matter the age. Natasha Poly in Atelier Versace – Carol Charlotte Casiraghi, usually a style icon who never fails, missed big in this Gucci at the Carol premiere Matthew McConaughey: yes, men can fail, too. This suit did not work any better than his movie, and when is going to lose the beard? Melissa George in Schiaparelli Couture at Irrational Man: Demi Moore tried this kind of get-up at the 1988 Oscars. It didn’t work then and it doesn’t now Diane Kruger at amfAR in a doll dress, never mind that it was Chanel Dita Von Teese at amfAR in whatever this teacup-design was supposed to be
