French Box Office, April 21, 2022

Four new movies arrived at the French box office this week. Thanks to the school break and the Easter holidays, animation and light fiction films were the most successful. American films seem to be met by audiences with more enthusiasm than French films. Clearly a search for a quick escape, a form to move away from the sad reality that has hit European countries lately.

This week, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore arrived at the number 1. Directed by David Yates, this adventure – Albus Dumbledore’s new assignment, starring Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, and Mads Mikkelsen- grossed $7,131,990.

In the second place, the French comedy Serial (Bad) Weddings 3 lost its top spot. The third part of the adventures of this modern multi-racial French family directed by Philippe de Chauveron starring Christian Clavier and Chantal Lauby grossed $2, 906,259, reaching a total of $8,481,236.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 got third place. The animated/live movie about the new heroic adventures of Sonic, directed by Jeff Fowler starring Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, and Idris Elba, grossed $1,871,761, reaching a total of $4,404,182.

The animated film The Bad Guys lost one place and ended up in fourth place. Directed by Pierre Perifel, this new adventure comedy from DreamWorks Animation chronicles the adventures of a gang of fearsome animal criminals. This week these Bad Guys collected $1,114,967 for a total of $2,296,429.

En corps took fifth place. Directed by Cédric Klapisch with Marion Barbeau, Hofesh Shechter, and Denis Podalydès, the film focuses on the misadventures and hardships of a great classical dancer and amassed $1,111,918 for a total receipt of $4,334,292.

Morbius landed in sixth place. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, starring Jared Leto, Matt Smith, and Adria Arjona, the adventures of the enigmatic anti-hero doctor from the Marvel Universe grossed $589,169 dollars reaching a total of $4,835,252.

In seventh place was the comedy-drama The Revenge of the Shiny Shrimps. Directed by Cédric Le Gallo and Maxime Govare with Nicolas Gob, Alban Lenoir and Michaël Abiteboul, the film raised $430,730.

The Batman was in eighth place. Directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, and Paul Dano, the film grossed $357,682 reaching a total of $22,722,535.

In ninth place was The Rabbit Academy. Directed by Ute von Münchow-Pohl, the movie about the Easter rabbits Max and Emmy trying to stop sneaky rabbit Leo grossed $313,771.

Finally, the tenth place held the documentary Le Stade , directed by Matthieu Vollaire and Éric Hannezo. The movie about the human adventure of the Stade Toulousain rugby team grossed $221,841.
