French Box-Office, January 6th, 2023

Avatar: The Way of Water remains number 1 at the box office in France. Directed by James Cameron with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney WeaverAvatar: The Way of Water takes place a decade after the events chronicled in the first film and tell the story of the members of the Sully family. The movie grossed $27,657,692 for already a total of $93,723,971.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is staying number 2 at the French box office. The movie directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado is about Puss in Boots who discovers that his passion for adventure has burned through eight of his nine lives. The movie grossed $2,946,672 reaching a total of $13,295,991.

M3GAN premiered at the box office in France in 3rd place. Directed by Gerard Johnstone with Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, and Ronny Chieng, the movie is about a robotics engineer at a toy company who builds a lifelike doll that begins to take on a life of its own. The movie grossed $1,396,239.           

Ride Above came in the French box office as number 4. Directed by Christian Duguay with Mélanie Laurent, Pio Marmaï, and Kacey Mottet Klein, the movie is about a teenager who has an exceptionally deep bond with a young horse but following an accident, her dream to have a racing career may be over. The movie grossed $1,389,440 reaching a total of $3,120,139.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is staying in 5th place. Directed by Ryan Coogler with Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, and Danai Gurira, the movie is about the people of Wakanda fighting to protect their home from intervening world powers as they mourn the death of King T’Challa. The movie grossed $828,282 reaching a total of $32,013,338.

Choeur de rockers premiered in 6th place. Directed by Ida Techer and Luc Bricault with Mathilde Seigner, Bernard Le Coq, and Anne Benoit, the movie is about a singer having problems with his career and accepting the job to make a choir of retirees sing nursery rhymes. The movie grossed $783,779.

From their 3rd place, Ernest and Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia is now number 7. Directed by Julien Chheng and Jean-Christophe Roger, this animated movie is about Ernest and Célestine returning to Ernest’s country to have his broken violin repaired but they discover that music is banned throughout the country. The movie grossed $773,694 reaching a total of $3,049,975.

Moonbound lost four spots and is now in 8th place. Directed by Ali Samadi Ahadi, the movie is about a young boy who embarks on an intergalactic mission to save his little sister from the clutches of a vengeful man on the moon. The movie grossed $708,470 for a total of $4,064,650.

Caravaggio’s Shadow premiered in 9th place. Directed by Michele Placido with Riccardo Scamarcio, Louis Garrel, and Isabelle Huppert, the movie is about the secret investigation by the Catholic Church of Caravaggio asking for clemency for killing a rival. The movie grossed $589,456.   

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile lost four spots and is now number 10. Directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck with Javier Bardem, Winslow Fegley, and the voice of Shawn Mendes, the movie is based on the children’s book about a crocodile that lives in New York City. The film grossed $560,072 for a total of $3,554,504.
