French Box Office, July 1st, 2022

A new movie is number 1 this week at the box office in France: Lightyear landed, grossing $3,158,778 for the first week. The movie is about the true story of the legendary Space Ranger who has since inspired the famous toy. After being stranded with his commander and his crew on a hostile planet located 4.2 million light years from Earth, Buzz Lightyear tries to bring everyone home safe and sound.

Jurassic World: Dominion is now number 2 at the box office. The movie directed by Colin Trevorrow with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Laura Dern, takes place four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar when dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside humans all over the world. This week, the movie grossed $ 2,978,372 reaching out a total of $16,735,358.

Top Gun: Maverick is in 3rd place in France. Directed by Joseph Kosinski with Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and Jennifer Connelly, this sequel is about Pete “Maverick” Mitchell who continues to push his limits as a test pilot and in charge of training a detachment of young graduates from the Top Gun school for a special mission that no pilot would have ever imagined. This week, the blockbuster movie grossed this week $2,834,389 reaching a total of $30,132,256.

Cannes selection Elvis premiered this week in 4th place. Directed by Baz Luhrmann with Austin Butler, Tom Hanks, and Olivia DeJonge, the movie is about the life of “The King” and his complicated relationship with his manager Colonel Tom Parker. It grossed $2,051,715.            

The Black Phone opened in 5th place. Directed by Scott Derrickson with Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, and Madeleine McGraw, the horror movie is about a teenager being abducted by a child killer and locked in a soundproof basement who starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer’s previous victims. The movie grossed $793,267.

Incredible But True went down to 6th place.  Directed by Quentin Dupieux with Alain Chabat, Léa Drucker, and Benoît Magimel, this comedy is about a couple, Alain and Marie, who moved into a house and discovered a hatch located in the cellar that will upset their existence. The movie grossed $1,467,160.  

Another French comedy at the box office! L’homme parfait is directed by Xavier Durringer with Didier Bourdon, Pierre-François Martin-Laval, Valérie Karsenti. It’s about a woman overwhelmed by her family life and her work who decides to buy a robot with a human appearance and a perfect physique to help her maintain the house, take care of the children, and more…her husband starts to be jealous! The movie is in 7th place and grossed $333,605.

The Good Boss is in 8th place. Directed by Fernando León de Aranoa with Javier Bardem, Manolo Solo, and Almudena Amor, the movie is about the owner of a manufacturing business of industrial scales who tries to resolve all problems his workers might have in order to get an award of excellence. The movie grossed $328,817.       

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is in 9th place at the box office in France. The story is about a journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange directed by Sam Raimi and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, $295,886 reaching a total of $23,726,885.

Champagne! is now in 10th place. The movie directed by Nicolas Vanier with Elsa Zylberstein, François-Xavier Demaison, and Stéphane De Groodt is about a band of friends who find themselves in Champagne, France, for the bachelor party of Patrick, the last bachelor of the band. The movie grossed this week $272,441 reaching a total of $1,577,356.
