French Box-Office, June 16th, 2022

In France, Jurassic World: Dominion is the new number 1 at the box office. The movie directed by Colin Trevorrow with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Laura Dern, takes place four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar when dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside humans all over the world. The movie grossed this week $8,580,007.

Top Gun: Maverick is now 2nd in France. Directed by Joseph Kosinski with Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and Jennifer Connelly, this sequel is about Pete “Maverick” Mitchell who continues to push his limits as a test pilot and in charge of training a detachment of young graduates from the Top Gun school for a special mission that no pilot would have ever imagined. The movie grossed this week $3,807,820 reaching a total of $24,229,317.        

Champagne! is the new French movie arriving in 3rd place at the box office. The movie directed by Nicolas Vanier with Elsa Zylberstein, François-Xavier Demaison, and Stéphane De Groodt is about a band of friends who find themselves in Champagne, France, for the bachelor party of Patrick, the last bachelor of the band. The movie grossed this week $738,483.          

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is in 4th place at the box office in France. The story about a journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange directed by Sam Raimi and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, grossed $528,402 reaching a total of $23,109,131.           

Alex Garland’s Men is in 5th place. Starring Jessie Buckley, Rory Kinnear, and Paapa Essiedu, Men is a horror movie about a young woman who goes on a solo vacation to the English countryside following the death of her ex-husband. The movie grossed $219,882 in the first week.

The new movie C’est magnifique! premiered at the box office in 6th place. This French comedy directed by Clovis Cornillac and starring Lilou Fogli and Tristan Schulmann, is about a man who discovers that he was adopted and must learn to survive in a modern society he has never known. The movie grossed $192,629 reaching a total of $877,035.

Official Competition opened last week and dropped to the 7th place. Directed by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat with Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, and Oscar Martinez, Official Competition is about a wealthy businessman who hires a famous filmmaker to help make a smash hit film. The film grossed $179,728 reaching a total of $641,909.

Final Cut is now in 8th place. Directed by Michel Hazanavicius with Romain Duris, Bérénice Bejo, and Grégory Gadebois, the movie is about a director shooting a feature film about zombies which quickly becomes a real zombie invasion. The movie grossed $145,560 reaching a total of $1,777,356. 

Another new movie, Firestarter, opened this week at the French box office. Directed by Keith Thomas with Zac Efron, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Sydney Lemmon, Firestarter is about a young girl who tries to understand how she mysteriously gained the power to set things on fire with her mind. The movie is in 9th place and grossed $143,818 reaching a total of $658,948.      

Brother and Sister remained in 10th place. Directed by Arnaud Desplechin with Marion Cotillard, Golshifteh Farahani, and Melvil Poupaud, the movie focuses on a sister and brother – an actress and a teacher/poet –  who haven’t talked to each other for a very long time, and all changes when their parents die. Brother and Sister grossed $136,524 reaching a total of $1,564,490.
