French Box Office, May 12th, 2022

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the new number 1 of France’s box office. Doctor Strange goes on a journey into the unknown, with the help of mystical allies old and new, and traverses the mind-bending and dangerous realities of the multiverse to face a mysterious new adversary. Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the movie grossed $9,555,044.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is now in second place. Directed by David Yates, this adventure starring Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, and Mads Mikkelsen grossed $1,287,116 reaching a total of $18,051,430.                                      

Serial (Bad) Weddings 3 lost one position and is now in third place. Directed by Philippe de Chauveron and starring Christian Clavier and Chantal Lauby, this French comedy about the adventures of this modern multi-racial French family grossed $836,412 reaching a total of $15,710,150.

Ténor entered the French box office in 4th place. Directed by Claude Zidi Jr. and starring Michèle Laroque, MB14, and Guillaume Duhesme, the movie is about a young man from the suburbs of Paris who loves rap and whose hidden talent an opera teacher discovers grossed $766,767.          

In 5th place, Downton Abbey: A New Era, the sequel from the 2019 movie in which the King and Queen of Great Britain are visiting the Crawley family and the Downton staff. The movie directed by Simon Curtis with Michelle Dockery, Tuppence Middleton, Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern grossed $675,603 reaching a total of $2,048,273.

Les Segpa holds on the 5th spot. Directed by Ali and Hakim Boughéraba starring Ichem Bougheraba, Walid Ben Amar, and Arriles Amrani, the movie is about the adventures of a group of bad students fired from their school that got surprisingly accepted in a prestigious college. Les Segpa grossed $665,790 reaching a total of $3,496,519.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is still on the French box offce. The new heroic adventures of Sonic, directed by Jeff Fowler and starring Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, and Idris Elba, is in 7th place. The movie grossed $642,634 reaching a total of 15,150,199 dollars.   

The Lost City is at the 8th position. Directed by Aaron and Adam Nee and starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe, the movie is about a novelist kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire who is convinced that she can help him find the treasure of a lost city mentioned in her latest book. The Lost City grossed $627,324 reaching a total of $4,013,111. 

A newcomer in the French box office is The Passengers of the Night. Directed by Mikhaël Hers and starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Quito Rayon Richter and Noée Abita, the movie is about a mother abandoned by her husband who finds a job on a radio show during the night and offers a young lady to come to live with her and her teenagers. The movie grossed $470,178 and is in 9th place.

The film Rise is now in 10th place. Directed by Cédric Klapisch with Marion Barbeau, Hofesh Shechter, and Denis Podalydès, this film on the misadventures and hardships of a great classical dancer grossed $456,868 for a total of $8,713,230.
