French Box Office, October 7th, 2022

Avatar is still going strong and remains number 1. The Avatar re-release, directed by James Cameron with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, and Sigourney Weaver, shows the franchise’s overseas strength. In France, the movie grossed $1,372,657 reaching a total of $3,142,942.

Smile opened in 2nd place. Directed by Parker Finn with Sosie Bacon, Jessie T. Usher, and Kyle Gallner, the movie is about a psychiatrist who starts to experience frightening occurrences after witnessing a traumatic incident involving one of her patients. The movie grossed $1,330,919.      

Jumeaux mais pas trop premiered in number 3. Directed by Olivier Ducray and Wilfried Meance with Ahmed Sylla, Bertrand Usclat, and Pauline Clément, this French comedy is about two twin brothers suddenly discovering the existence of each other 33 years after their birth. The movie grossed $1,308,325.

Triangle of Sadness opened in France at 4th place. Directed by Ruben Östlund with Harris Dickinson, Charlbi Dean Kriek, and Woody Harrelson, Triangle of Sadness is a satire of our society with a group of passengers of a luxury cruise trapped on an island. The movie grossed $1,040,490.        

Driving Madeleine lost 3 spots and is now at 5th place. Directed by Christian Carion with Line Renaud, Dany Boon, and Alice Isaaz, this French movie is about an old lady ready to go to live in a nursing home on the other side of Paris. When a taxi driver is coming to pick her up, she asks him to go through places of the capital, which have counted in her life.The movie grossed $660,032 reaching a total of $1,927,809.  

Other People’s Children is now number 6. Directed by Rebecca Zlotowski with Virginie Efira, Roschdy Zem and Chiara Mastroianni, the movie is about a childless woman who forms a deep bond with her boyfriend’s young daughter. The film grossed $539,491 reaching a total of $1,542,567.         

Opening in 3rd   place, Don’t Worry Darling is now at 7th place. Directed by Olivia Wilde with Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine and Olivia Wilde, the movie is the chronicle of an isolated community in the California desert in the heart of the 1950s, in which a housewife finds her life turned upside down. The movie grossed $538,400 reaching a total of $1,603,361.

The Woman King opened in number 8. Directed by with Gina Prince-Bythewood with Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu and Lashana Lynch, the movie, based on true events, traces the extraordinary story of the Agojié, a unit of women warriors who protected the kingdom of Dahomey in the 19th century in West Africa. The film grossed $532,465.

Kompromat lost four spots and is now at 9th place. Directed by Jérôme Salle with Gilles Lellouche, Joanna Kulig, and Louis-Do de Lencquesaing, the movie is about a French diplomat victim of a “Kompromat” – forged compromising documents used by the Russian secret services to harm an enemy of the state. Threatened with a life sentence, his only option is to escape.  The movie grossed $478,631 reaching a total of $3,756,711.

The previous week, Paris Memories was at 6th place but is now number 10. Directed by Alice Winocour with Virginie Efira, Benoît Magimel and Grégoire Colin, this movie is about a woman who survived a terrorist attack in Paris but is still so traumatized that she is unable to recall the events of that night. The movie grossed $445,559 reaching a total of $3,072,564.
