Would-be gatecrashers hoping to outwit the tight security and mingle with the stars at the glittering Golden Globes award ceremony could find themselves in jail under a tough new law going before California’s Legislature.
If they are caught they could face up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine or both. The new law is aimed at deterring people like former party crasher Scott Weiss, who in the past has managed to sneak into the Golden Globes, the Oscars, the Grammys, the Emmys and the Screen Actors Guild awards. He chronicled his exploits in the 2009 documentary Crasher. But he believes the anti-crashing measure will simply act as a challenge for enterprising gate crashers. “It’ll deter a few people but it’s also going to bring a lot of people who never conceived of doing it into the crashing business,” he tells the Los Angeles Times.
