Golden Globe Moment, 1946: War is Over
The war had ended – there was hope for a peaceful and prosperous future. For the third time, the members of the recently created HFPA met at the Knickerbocker Hotel, in Los Angeles, to “honor the best achievements of 1945 filmmaking”. The event was announced on March 6 and held on March 30, 1946. Billy Wilder received two Globes, Best Director and Best Motion Picture, for The Lost Weekend, and its star, Ray Milland, took the Best Actor in a Leading Role Golden Globe. The achievements were, indeed, honored.
