Veteran actor ErnestBorgnine, who won a Golden Globe in 1956 and was nominated for another two years ago at the age of 91, is to receive the Screen Actors Guild’s life achievement award.
Borgnine, who won his best actor Globe for his performance in the movie Marty and was nominated again in 2008 for his role in the TV movie A Grandpa for Christmas, has appeared in more than 200 movies, five television series and dozens of made-for-TV films.
He broke into showbusiness in 1949 as the hospital attendant in a Broadway production of Harvey and made his movie debut two yeas later in The Whistle at Eaton Falls.
“Whether portraying brutish villains, sympatheic everymen, complex leaders or hapless heroes, ErnestBorgnine has brought a boundless energy, which at 93 is still a hallmark of his remarkably busy life and career,” said SAG president Ken Howard.
