Golden Globes Around the World Podcast: Szilvia Gogh

This week’s “Golden Globes Around the World” podcast episode features Szilvia Gogh, a woman of many talents. Scuba diver and instructor, marine coordinator and water safety officer, stunt double and stunt woman, jewelry designer, cancer survivor, wife and mother. The vibrant multi-hyphenate was born in Hungary, which has the largest freshwater lake in Europe, but she didn’t see the ocean, where she learned to scuba dive, until she was a teenager.

Since then, Szilvia has had many careers, but especially working in the water on many Hollywood films and TV shows in various roles. As stunt performer, stunt double and water safety officer, her film credits include Big Miracle (2012, as stunt double in underwater scenes for Drew Barrymore), The Submarine Kid (2015), The Curse of La Llorona (2019), Don’t Worry Darling (2022), Avatar (2022 as Zoe Saldana stunt double and marine coordinator working closely with James Cameron). Her TV credits include Desperate Housewives (2010), Dexter (2013), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2014), Euphoria (2022), Chicago P.D. (2022), Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) and 9-1-1: Lone Star (2020-23).

Hungarian journalist Aniko Navai sat down with her fellow countrywoman to talk about Szilvia’s inspiring journey, her fight for survival after being stricken with cancer, and why she thinks the Avatar films will help save our oceans as well as bring people back to the water who were scared away by Jaws!
