Golden Globes Around the World Podcast: “The Worst Ones”

Last year, the French drama The Worst Ones won the Cannes International Film Festival Grand Prize in the prestigious ‘Un Certain Regard’ competition.

The film, directed by Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret, will finally open in the U.S. this week and our own French HFPA member, Hervé Tropéa, hosts an exclusive episode of our “Golden Globes Around the World” podcast series with the French filmmakers in their own language.

The Worst Ones tells the story of four teenagers from a French housing project who are selected to star in a new film exploring the challenges of living in that project. With Tropea translating his own questions from French to English and an interpreter for the filmmakers translating their answers, the conversation covers the filmmakers’ own challenges in making a film within a film and also casting four local working-class teenagers with no acting experience after an extensive search in that same small town.
