Heath Ledger Honored At 2009 Golden Globes
It was just one year after his tragic death, and on January 11 Heath Ledger was honored for his amazing work in “The Dark Knight” with a Best Supporting Actor trophy at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards. Director Christopher Nolan accepted the award for his late friend/colleague, telling the audience, “On behalf of all of us who worked with Heath on Dark Knight, I accept this with mix of sadness and incredible pride. He will be eternally missed but he will never be forgotten.” Though they couldn’t make it to the awards night, Heath’s family released a statement via father Kim Ledger, saying, “We are overjoyed for him. It’s wonderful.” Costar Aaron Eckhart recognized the sweetness of Heath’s win, along with the bitterness of not being able to share it with him. “Just that we’re talking about him, remembering him, we’re showcasing his talent and him as a human being, is very important to me. For us – everyone in The Dark Knight – this is all for Heath.”
