HFPA Congratulates Nobel Peace Prize Winners Muratov and Ressa
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association congratulates Russian journalist and editor of Novaja Gazeta, Dmitry Muratov and Filipino founder of the investigative journalism website Rappler, Maria Ressa, for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
Both have been unsilenced voices for truth in the face of authoritarianism, currently on the rise in many parts of the world. Their undaunted commitment to speaking truth to power underscores the vital importance of independent journalism in the face, not only of repression but of the rising tide of fake news. We commend and support their work and remain committed to supporting independent journalism throughout the world.
In 2019 Ressa participated in the HFPA- sponsored Freedom Week, speaking at the panel we held jointly with the Committee to Protect Journalists. She later joined HFPA journalist Ruben Nepales to speak about her work on our podcast “In Conversation.” Click here to listen.
