IL VOLO VISIT HFPA HQ

Il Volo 32

The Italian operatic trio Il Volo met with HFPA members at their headquarters in West Hollywood as part of the association’s Round Table series of interviews. Just hours before performing at a sold-out Gibson Amphitheater, tenors Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto and baritone Gianluca Ginoble spoke about the challenges of their growing popularity in the United States.

“We pretty much live on an airplane,” Gianluca says. “Just this week alone we’re performing in six different US cities, starting with San Francisco and ending it at Radio City Music Hall in New York.”
The trio, nicknamed the Three Young Tenors and discovered during an Italian talent search by the producer behind Andrea Bocelli, have been a European teen sensation for several years.

“It’s great for us to bring this kind of music to younger people,” explained Piero. “Still, when you look at our audience they are both young and older.”

“It’s true,” Gianluca adds. “The hot girls bring their grandmothers!”

These days, there is not much time for those girls, however. “In the beginning, in Italy, we had time to party. Now with our success we are constantly on the road. These days, when we party, it’s with people like Lady Gaga!”

All seems fine behind the scenes. “We don’t really fight,” Ignazio explains. “We sometimes just argue but nobody notices because we are loud anyway!”
