With her performance in Labor Day, English actress Kate Winslet received her 10th Golden Globe nomination. She won twice in 2009, as Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for Revolutionary Road, and as Best Supporting Actress for The Reader (for which she also won an Academy Award). “What a year that was for me!” she says with a radiant smile. In 2012 she won her third Golden Globe as Best Actress in the miniseries category for Mildred Pierce. In Jason Reitman’s Labor Day, adapted from Joyce Maynard’s 2009 novel, Winslet plays Adele, a mentally fragile, reclusive single mom of a 13-year-old son who gives shelter to an escaped convict (Josh Brolin), during a long late-summer week-end. “At the end of the day,” Winslet explains, “the only thing that is wrong in this relationship is that he’s just escaped from prison. Other than that, their relationship is beautiful and deep. I find it a very romantic movie, though a bizarre one.” Born in 1975 in Reading, Berkshire, England, 38-year-old Winslet has embraced difficult and original projects from the beginning of her film career.
