On Music: Dakota Johnson’s Exquisite Education
A former Miss Golden Globe (2006), daughter of another Miss Golden Globe – and Golden Globe winner (Melanie Griffith, 1975), Dakota Johnson is fast on her way to stardom, thanks in great part to the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise. The sexy exploits of Johnson’s formerly shy Anastasia Steele reach new scorching temperatures in the Fifty Shades Darker, the second picture in the series, hitting screens soon. Beyond that, Johnson will be seen later this year in director Luca Guadagino’s remake of Dario Argento’s horror classic Suspiria. We talked to Dakota about the role music plays in her life and work.
“I grew up in a household where both my mom and my dad have pretty exquisite tastes in music. And my two older brothers are musicians and my younger brother is a musician and yeah I grew up having kind of a vast knowledge of music and constantly having it affect me. So then when I started working, they kind of just go hand in hand to me. And also when I see films and the music amplifies the story and you understand more about a character because of a song that is playing, it’s all one to me. I am constantly playing music, always. I always have a record on or something. I listen to everything. I mean everything really. This morning it was Bruce Springsteen.’
