Nominee Profile 2023: “Only Murders in the Building”
Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy
In 2022, the first season of Only Murders in the Building was nominated for Best TV Series – Musical or Comedy. Both lead actors, Steve Martin and Martin Short, were nominated for Best TV Actor – Musical or Comedy Series.
Hulu’s stylish whodunit comedy was created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman.
Only Murders in the Building centers on three strangers living at the Arconia, an affluent apartment building in Manhattan. They share an obsession with mysteries and true crime podcasts.
Steve Martin plays Charles-Haden Savage, a semi-retired actor living in unit 14C who was the star of a popular 1990s TV drama. Martin Short stars as Oliver Putnam, an ambitious but struggling Broadway director. He lives in unit 10D. Selena Gomez portrays Mabel Mora, a young artist living in apartment 12E. Mabel was friends with the first-season murder victim.
If the first season tells the story of the investigation and podcast launched by the trio in order to uncover the mystery behind a suspicious murder, the second season brings the drama even closer to home: the three neighbors become suspects in the bloody demise of a fellow resident at the Arconia. Season two opens with Mabel all covered in blood.
The cast expanded. Cara Delevingne joined the series as a regular. She plays Alice, a sophisticated art world insider and Mabel’s love interest.
This year, Only Murders in the Building is nominated for Best TV Series – Musical or Comedy. Steve Martin and Martin Short are, once again, nominated for Best TV Actor – Musical or Comedy Series. Selena Gomez received her very first Golden Globes nomination for Best Television Actress – Musical or Comedy Series.
