Three talented actresses were nominated for the first time for a Golden Globe Award in this category this year, along with one previously nominated actress and a veteran star who won the Award last year. It is a long-awaited starring role for Smart, now in her 70s, after decades of acting in supporting roles in cinema and television.
Kaley Cuoco also returns to the same category for her role in The Flight Attendant. She received her first Golden Globe nomination for the same series in its first season in 2021. Cuoco, who made her name in The Big Bang Theory, which ran from 2007 to 2017, has acted in multiple roles in both television and cinema.
Cuoco acted in the popular series The Flight Attendant as Cassie Bowden, a flight attendant who wakes up one day in a hotel in Bangkok, to find a dead man next to her, in circumstances of which she knows nothing, and must face the consequences.
Actor, singer and film producer Selena Gomez, is one of the three stars in this category who received their first-ever Golden Globe nomination this year, in her case for her role in Only Murders in The Building. She plays Mabel, a mysterious girl who goes on exciting adventures with Steve Martin and Martin Short. All of them are obsessed with the investigation of a murder.
The former Disney star Selena Gomez said in a video clip on Tik Tok after she was informed of her nomination: “Oh my God! I’m so excited. I didn’t think I was gonna get nominated, or I thought. But I’m happy.”
Multi-talented star Quinta Brunson wins her first Golden Globe nomination for her acting role in Abbott Elementary. She also wrote the series, which achieved great success in its first season in 2021. She also is its executive producer. Brunson became famous in 2014, through the Instagram series The Girl Who’s Never Been on a Nice Date. Then she developed shows in entertainment. Brunson appears on The TIME list of the100 most influential people of 2022.
At 20, rising star Jenna Ortega is the youngest nominee in this category, receiving her first Golden Globe nomination for Wednesday. Ortega started her career when she was 10 years of age, subsequently participating in many movies and TV series. Her first starring role was in 2014 in the direct-to-video comedy film The Little Rascals Save the Day. She has since appeared in a number of successful productions in both film and television.
