Pigeon Nabs Lion In Venice
The absurdist vignette movie A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Reflecting On Existence by Sweden’s Roy Andersson won the top prize at the Venice film Festival in a somewhat surprising verdict that left Alejandro Iñiarritu’s Birdman out of the running. The
jury, opting perhaps for a less Hollywood-centric choice, also awarded Russian veteran Andrej Koncalovskij the Silver Lion for his The Postman’s White Nights. The Special Jury prize went to Joshua Oppenheimer’s The Look of Silence his equally powerful follow-up to last year’s The Act of Killing on the Indonesian killing fields of the 70s.
Acting kudos went to Alba Rohrwacher and Adam Driver for their joint performance in Saverio Costanzo’s New York psychological drama Hungry Hearts. Here’s the list of awards: Complete Winners Of The 71st Venice Film Festival
