Podcast: Casper Van Dien, Golden Globes Around the World Series

Although Casper Van Dien has appeared in over 150 TV and film credits during his 30-year-plus career, he will probably always be best remembered for two early iconic roles: as General Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers (1997) and as the King of the Jungle himself in Tarzan and the Lost City (1998).

In our newest “Golden Globes Around the World” podcast episode, Van Dien reminisces with HFPA member Rocio Ayuso about how both roles compare with his newest alter ego, Samuel Hyst, in the series, Salvage Marines, now on www.popcornflix.com.

“With age comes wisdom and you can’t beat experience,” Van Dien told Ayuso shortly after his Comic-Con appearance to promote the drama about a factory laborer living in a grim future of corporate tyranny who signs up as a salvage marine, the foot soldiers of a militarized deep space operation. “I think the 53-year-old me could now take out the 27-year-old me because I have trained longer and worked harder and know more tricks with my old man strength,” he adds with a chuckle.

The actor whose credits include: Sleepy Hollow (1999), The Pact (2012), Alita: Battle Angel (2019), and The 2nd (2020) also talks about what it was like to be the first Tarzan to film in Africa and gushes with pride over his daughter’s (Grace Van Dien) brutal death scene in the last season of Stranger Things.
