Podcast: Michelle Yeoh, Golden Globes Around World
As we celebrate the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Golden Globe awards, we reach Day 19 of our online 80-Day Countdown series – the year, 1961.
That’s the year that Nancy Kwan became the first Asian actor to win a Golden Globe, as New Star of the Year in the film The World of Suzie Wong, also earning another nomination for Best Actress in the film.
That Chinese American actress recently celebrated her 83rd birthday and is likely proud of her trailblazing role in Hollywood, so we thought we’d take you back to 2018 when we recorded an episode of our Golden Globes Around the World podcast series with another Asian trailblazer, Michelle Yeoh.
Best-known for films including Tomorrow Never Dies, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Crazy Rich Asians, the Malaysian-born star is back in the awards race this season for her starring role in the indie hit Everyone Everywhere All At Once. Tune in to hear her talk to HFPA member Scott Orlin about her life and career which continues to inspire diversity in cinema around the world.
