Television: The Spate of Show Cancelations 2022

While fans impatiently await the fate of some of their favorite series for fall, many TV shows have already fallen by the wayside to the greatest misfortune of TV viewers. A large number of TV shows must lower their curtains following plummeting audiences. Here’s a close-up of these series which must say goodbye.

Netflix has announced a long list of canceled TV series. After two seasons on the streamer, Space Force, Raising Dion and Gentefied have been canceled. Netflix axed Pretty Smart and Archive 81 after just one season and canceled the family comedy-drama series, The Baby-Sitters Club, and the sci-fi drama Another Life after two seasons.

In a letter to fans, the Duffer Brothers confirmed Stranger Things will end with a fifth and final season. “We are now hurtling toward our finale,” they said, saying the fourth season has a runtime “nearly twice the length of any previous season.”

The CW channel has also announced the abrupt end of several of its series. The CW has canceled Legacies, the network’s second Vampire Diaries spinoff after four seasons, and In the Dark after four seasons. Dynasty was canceled by the CW after five seasons. It’s Charmed reboot was canceled after four seasons and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has been canceled after seven seasons. The network also canceled Roswell, New Mexico after four seasons, and Naomi and 4400 after just one season. As if it was not enough, Batwoman has been canceled by the CW after three seasons. Showrunner Caroline Dries broke the news on Twitter, posting, “Just got the sad news that #Batwoman will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude.”

CBS has also decided to clean up its program schedule for fall: Magnum P.I. has been canceled after four seasons. United States of Al and B Positive have been canceled after two seasons. CBS has canceled Good Sam and How We Roll after just one season, and Bull after six seasons following star Michael Weatherly’s decision to quit the series. “It’s been my privilege to play Dr. Jason Bull but after 6 Seasons of incredible storylines, I’ve decided it’s time to pursue new creative challenges and bring his story to a close,” he wrote.

NBC has canceled Mr. Mayor and Kenan after two seasons, and its dramas The Endgame and Ordinary Joe after just one season. NBC’s New Amsterdam is to end after its 13-episode fifth season.

 

Fox has canceled the freshman comedies Pivoting and Our Kind of People. The Fox dance dramedy, The Big Leap, starring Scott Foley, won’t be getting a second season.

Hulu has canceled Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. after just one season. Dollface has been canceled after two seasons. Love Victor will end after its upcoming third season on Hulu, which will premiere on June 15, 2022.

While Amazon Studio decided that Jack Ryan will come to an end with Season 4, the HBO Max Series The Prince has been canceled after just one season.

ABC also didn’t want to give a second season to some shows and has canceled Queens and Promised Land after just one season. Black-ish has been canceled after an eighth and final season.

 

Peacock has canceled Saved by the Bell after two seasons and has canceled Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol after just one season.

While FX decided that Atlanta will end with its fourth season and Better Things with its fifth season, TBS has canceled The Last O.G. after 4 seasons.

If many American channels put an end to the life of certain series, the Bravo channel, which specializes in reality TV programs, boasts of renewing most of its programs for the next season.

Bravo has renewed Top Chef and Project Runway for its twentieth season. Married to Medicine has been renewed for a ninth season and Vanderpump Rules has been renewed for a tenth season. Bravo has renewed Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles for the twelfth season. Summer House has been renewed for a seventh season, Winter House for a second season, Karma for a third season, Below Deck Mediterranean for a seventh season, and Below Deck for a tenth season. The franchise of The Real Housewives is still a big success for Bravo. The Real Housewives of New Jersey has been renewed by Bravo for a thirteenth season, The Real Housewives of New York City for its fourteenth season, The Real Housewives of Potomac for a seventh season and The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has been renewed by Bravo for a third season.

Yes, reality shows really seem to have a bright future on the American small screen.
