Telluride Film Festival Announces This Year’s Lineup
While today the gala night audience at the Sala Grande broke in seemingly never-ending applause after the screening of Todd Field’s Tár at the Venice Film Festival, the Telluride Film Festival announced the line-up of its 49th edition.
It is no coincidence that the Telluride selection also includes Tár, the well-received psychological drama of a brilliant conductor and composer played by Cate Blanchett.
Tár isn’t the only film in the lineup that’s stirring a buzz. As in the past, Venice and Telluride have become gateways to an open road to the top of the awards season. And with both festivals coming back live, the excitement of year-end recognition is growing.
Other Venice choices present in Telluride are Luca Guadagnino’s cannibal drama Bones and All and Alejandro González Iñárritu’s dramedy Bardo (or False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths) about a journalist reflecting on his life.
As usual, Telluride also picked red-hot new titles from diverse countries, with world premieres of Sebastián Lelio’s drama The Wonder, opening theatrically in November before streaming on Netflix in December; Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light, a 1980s-set love story; Sarah Polley’s Women Talking, with Claire Foy, Frances McDormand, Rooney Mara and many more; and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre’s version of the well-known Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
