Vintage Cannes: 1983 – Sigourney and Mel Hit the Croisette

In 1983, Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver made the pilgrimage to the Croisette to support Peter Weir‘s The Year of Living Dangerously. The drama, set in mid-60s Indonesia, a country in a political crisis that would soon overthrow president Sukarno. No Palme d’Or for the film or its cast and creators, but later Living Dangerously would be showered with accolades, including a Golden Globe nomination for the phenomenal performance of Linda Hunt as a (male) photographer, and six Academy Awards nominations.
