This weekend saw a few familiar films make decent return runs while several Golden Globe nominees added theaters on the back of last Wednesday’s honors. Five times nominated The Favourite expanded to 91 theaters and took $1.43 million. Fox Searchlight’s 18^th Century dark comedy about a hapless Queen Anne and a pair of competing confidants earned a nomination for Best Picture, Musical or Comedy. It also earned three acting noms, one for Olivia Colman in her leading role, and two for Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz in the supporting category. It picked up a ceremony berth for Best Screenplay. It sits at $3.4 million from its limited openings in the US and has yet to move overseas.

Fellow five-time nominee A Star is Born stuck around the global top 20, taking $4.5 million worldwide two months after its early October release. This musical tale is among the Best Picture, Drama nominees. Bradley Cooper won nominations for his first-time work behind the camera as Best Director, as well as in front of it as Best Actor. Lead actress Stephania Germanotta, also known as Lady Gaga, has her first nomination for Best Actress in a Drama, while she and Cooper share writing credits and another nomination for the film’s featured original song, “Shallow”. A star is Born has now earned $369.7 million worldwide.

Staying with high-earning Globe nominees, Bohemian Rhapsody was once again near the top of the international chart, finishing the frame in third place. Fox’s Rami Malek led Queen biopic took third on the combined chart with $35.2 million and is only days away from crossing $600 million just over a month after its release. Rhapsody is the second music-heavy picture nominated for Best Picture, Drama, while Rami Malek is up for an award for Best Actor.

Green Book, with its nominations for Best Picture, Musical for Comedy, made $3.9 million at home and reached a global cume of $19.9 million. It’s still in limited release overseas with just eight foreign territories in play. Along with its best picture nod, Greenbook has a chance to pick up awards for Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali as Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, while former Dumb and Dumber director Peter Farrelly is up for best screenplay along with Brian Currie and Nick Vallelonga, the son of the real-life Tony “Lip” Vallelonga, who was played in the film by Mortensen. Farrelly is also nominated for Best Director.

Among worldwide new releases, Aquaman netted a fantastic catch in the heavily polluted Yellow Sea and made $93.6 million in its first global market, China. That was enough to make it the number one film worldwide. Jason Momoa stars as the title character, an Atlantis prince who has to save the Ocean from nuclear submarine riding pirates and earn his people’s respect after being cast out for being half human. Major markets due to open next week include the UK, Mexico, and Russia, while the US won’t see this film in theaters until December 21.

The domestic top five was made up of Ralph Breaks the Internet ($16.1 Million), The Grinch ($15.1 million), Creed II ($10.3 million), Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald ($6.8 million), and Bohemian Rhapsody ($6 million).

Next week we’ll see the North American release of Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. Best Picture nominee If Beale Street could Talk makes its domestic opening as well, and Fox is putting out a PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2.
