We at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association are committed to transformational change.  Effective immediately, the Board – in consultation with outside advisors – will oversee reforms and be accountable for that change.

Paul Robeson, a world-famous entertainer, and international civil rights activist was born in New Jersey, in 1898, to Reverend William Drew Robeson, an escaped slave, and Maria Louisa Bustill, a Quaker schoolteacher. After facing severe racism at work, he abandoned his legal career and pursued acting in films and theater.

Cristin Milioti knew in high school that she was going to be an actress. She told HFPA journalist Vera Anderson that as a kid she liked to sing more than act.

Between 1948 and 1983 Golden Globes were awarded in a special category of “New Star of the Year” conceived to recognize young actors making a mark in their early roles. In this series, the HFPA’s Phil Berk highlights those that would follow their auspicious starts with distinguished careers.

Jodie Foster spoke with HFPA journalists in 1991 about directing her first movie, Little Man Tate. “The thing about directing is that it is so intense, it takes such a long period of time and so much energy, that to have that kind of focus for over two years, you have to really love something and understand it absolutely from the ground up.

Singer-songwriter Andra Day won a Golden Globe award as Best Actress in a drama for her acting debut playing the legendary singer nicknamed Lady Day in the movie The United States vs. Billie Holiday directed by Lee Daniels, she was nominated to a second Golden Globe by the journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for co-writing (with Raphael Saadiq) the music and lyrics of the original song for the movie, “Tigress & Tweeds.

Anyone that has visited the Dodger Stadium Covid testing site in Los Angeles during these long pandemic months, knows the heroic work of CORE. The non-profit organization has provided free testing available to all comers, even as health and government institutions faltered under less than sterling leadership.
